The Birkin bag, an icon in the world of luxury fashion, was born from a chance meeting between English actress and singer Jane Birkin and then-CEO of Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, in the mid-1980s. Legend has it that the two met by coincidence on a flight from Paris to London, where Birkin, after dropping her bag, expressed her desire for a practical yet spacious piece that was still elegant.
